Change can be a daunting process, especially when employees are used to working effectively with old methods. Change, when managed poorly, can damage team dynamics, increase anxiety and ultimately decrease worker productivity. The key to managing change is building trust. Without trust, employees will have no motivation to follow your lead.
As you can see from this 2010 Deloitte study, 7 out of the 10 reasons are related to the people side of change. If this is the case why do leaders not ensure these items are proactively addressed and avoided? The number one reason is that most sponsors and managers believe they understand change management yet the data over the past 10 years indicates differently.

Change initiatives often result in decreased productivity, as employees must try to adapt to change while still performing all of their regular duties. A successful change initiative must find a way to boost employee and team productivity during the change process.
